Apology
This text has caused a lot of controvery and I really should remove
it from this site. Then, however, quite a few people in the >3σ
range have written to me and told me how helpful they have found this
essay. So I will keep it for now and just add a few things:
- I do not think that highly intelligent people are "better" than others.
- Academia is a machinery that works fine as it
is and I respect
everybody who is involved in it; it's just not a place that embraces
radically new ideas (and this might be a feature rather than a mistake),
so highly intelligent people may not feel welcome there.
- I am as opposed to "elitism" as you (probably) are. My intention is
to create a better understanding of the struggles of highly intelligent
people.
So, when you are reading this essay and I somehow managed to step
on your proverbial toes, please accept my sincere apology! It was not
my intention and I certainly would not think less of you, just because
you got a specific score in a test.
