Living a simple life

People waste most time of their lifes trying to accumulate wealth and "have fun".

Used vs New

The only things I buy from shops are food, sanitary products, medicine (when needed), and some bits and pieces like tubes for my bicyle (rarely). Oh, and books: I guess they are my weak point. ;-) Whenever I buy new stuff, I buy the simplest I can get and use it until it disintegrates.

Transport

I bought my bike back in 1992 and still ride it (I ride about 5000kms (3100 miles) per year). When I need a car, I borrow one.

Tech

My cell phone was a present and it already was about 5 years old when I got it. My computer is about 10 years old and I share it with my SO (it is a Unix machine, so we can use it at the same time).

Entertainment

I never buy music except from artists themselves, and I do not listen to mainstream music because it is uninspired (I need not say anything about music industry, do I?). For the same reasons, I do not watch movies. Or TV.

Information

All it takes to keep yourself informed is the internet and about 30 minutes of time per day. I do not own a TV, I never listen to the radio, and I do not read newspapers. Most of the mass media are nothing more than corporate mouthpieces anyway.

Wealth

I am a computer scientist, so I guess I could earn a lot of money, but I do not want to. At the time being I work part-time. My job is fine, but there are more important things than a "successful carreer".
